I watched in disbelief as Radovan Karadzic stood in The Hague after his capture in July 2008. The American media provided scant coverage of this extraordinary event and the Americans I spoke with showed general disinterest given the magnitude of the charges against him. Unable to hide from his past, some protesters in Belgrade demanded his release. I felt compelled to depict the spectacle of a 63 year-old man, naked before the world, as he is being judged for crimes committed against fellow human beings.
