Since I was a child growing up in Tehran, I've always had a great interest in people and their life stories. All sorts of people, from all walks of life. People who struggled, people who skid, people without homes. The young and old (especially the old), drunkards in Roppongi. Social eyes, political eyes, eyes looming as large as the moon, eyes filled with cleverness, ridicule, merriment, despair or surprise. I'd like to think that my work captures a particle of that human spirit, a small thread, a fraction of life, but not always as a silent observer. Jason Noushin º Biography
British National Lives and works in Connecticut Born in 1969 in Plymouth, England, Jason grew up in Tehran, Iran until he was 13 years old. Under the guardianship of his grandparents and his aunt, Massoumeh Noushin Seyhoun, celebrated founder of the Seyhoun Art Gallery and a well-known artist, Jason was encouraged from early childhood to sketch and draw. Those "magical years" as he calls them, were crowded with frequent visits by exceptional Iranian artists such as Sohrab Sepehri who often played football with him in the backyard and Reza Mafi, who for a time lived in their house. After the Iranian Revolution, Jason moved to France and later to England, before finally settling down in the United States in 1997. Today, he is an antiquarian bookseller, dealing in rare books and manuscripts relating to America. He uses old printed leaves and other 19thC material such as tin types in his current works.
