British National Lives and works in Connecticut Raised in Tehran, I am a self-taught artist who was encouraged to draw by my aunt, prominent gallery owner and abstract artist, Massoumeh Seyhoun. I bore witness to the chaos of the Iranian Revolution and the start of the Iran-Iraq war as a young child - two defining events which resonate in my art. While I don't depict my personal experience of upheaval and war, I do explore the people and politics that shape and meld our common human story, regardless of geography, race or creed. In general, I represent my subjects in the sparest possible light – usually nude, so the narrative unfolds metaphorically. Since late 2007, I’ve worked in pen and ink on leaves from 18th and early 19th century books and pamphlets, a byproduct of my antiquarian book business. On occasion, I’ll amalgamate tintype photographs, parts of bindings or found objects such as flora or, a lock of hair. Any marginal notes, inscriptions or other markings by previous owners are left untouched. Jason Noushin º Education Hammersmith College, London 1988 - 1990
